IO-Link master acts as the interface between sensors/actuators and the control system.
You can connect both IO-Link sensors and standard (non-IO-Link) sensors to it, but wiring differs slightly.
IO-Link Sensors
Use standard **3-wire connections** (24V, GND, and IO-Link signal).
Connect directly to the **IO-Link port** on the master.
The master automatically recognizes and communicates with the sensor using the IO-Link protocol.
Standard Sensors (DI/DO)
Also use **3-wire connections**, typically for digital inputs (e.g., proximity sensors) or outputs (e.g., actuators).
Can be connected to the same IO-Link master port, but the port must be configured in **standard I/O mode**.
The IO-Link master treats the signal as a regular digital input or output.
This flexibility allows IO-Link masters to support both smart IO-Link devices and traditional sensors, simplifying installation and reducing wiring complexity.
