This is an important alarm that is often missed as your systems grow to needing Ethernet IO.

You can see that there is a problem with an Ethernet device by looking at the I/O light on the front of the PLC or looking for the I/O Not Responding indicator. You can use the GSV instruction to get this same data in your PLC program.
