In this lesson you will go through configuring RsLinx for connecting to the Allen Bradley Micrologix PLC through the Ethernet port using both the Ethernet/IP and Ethernet Devices driver.
Ethernet/IP Driver. This is the easier of the two to configure because you just have to configure your PC to be on the same network as the PLC. For example, your trainer's IP has been set to 192.168.1.10 so you will need another IP address in the range of 192.168.1.1-254.
Ethernet Devices Driver. This driver is not plug and play like the Ethernet/IP driver. You must configure the IP Addresses you wish RsLinx to look for devices on. The main reason you would need this driver is if something is blocking the Ethernet/IP broadcast packets from the RsLinx Ethernet/IP lesson.
Even if you successfully connected with the Ethernet/IP driver, still take the time to practice the Ethernet Devices driver. If you ever connect to a PLC remotely across the internet or are connected to a more involve network then many times the broadcast packets that the Ethernet/IP driver depend on will be blocked.
